Introduction

Have you ever heard of a world without meat? Imagine that the grocery store shelves that are so often stocked to the bursting point with beef, ham, and pork are now empty, and instead filled with healthier substitutes that are just as good. Would you buy them? What if the lush green Amazon Rainforest surviving depended on you choosing what to eat? In this book you will learn about why to become a vegetarian, the future of meat, and the environmental impacts of meat.

Chapter 1: Why Become a Vegetarian?

The environment depends on making a simple decision of whether to eat meat or not. But being a vegetarian is nice. Your options are less narrow than being a vegan and many restaurants have non meat options. The easiest way to become a  vegetarian is to never try meat, but many don't have the option so allow yourself less and less meat until you stop craving it.

But why become a vegetarian? Many innocent animals' lives could be spared and more than half of the US’s antibiotics are put towards animals raised for agriculture. The antibiotics don't always work, cows still get mad cow disease, chickens still get the flu and other animals still get more serious diseases.

More and more meat farms are popping up around the world. If we keep eating to our demand the world will become one big meat farm. What if there were an alternative that consumes little space and low energy?

Chapter 2:  Kinds of Veggie Meat

There are many kinds of veggie meat: the impossible burger, morning star, the beyond burger, the corn burger and others. Many people believe that eating meat makes us human and that meat supplies good protein and iron, but spinach has just as much iron while meat has a special kind of iron called heme iron. If you were to check how much protein a cow has you would discover that it has a lot, but if you eat the cow you will get much less protein than if the cow was alive. While the veggie meat brand Morning Star is lower in calories and saturated fats, many people say Impossible burgers are nutritious and delicious. Some people say that some veggie meat does not taste like meat but it still tastes good.

Chapter 3: Environmental Impacts

There are many factors that can impact the environment, and veggie meat can help stop global warming.  Cow farts have a substance called methane, which is worse than CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), and cows are farmed for all red meats, but veggie meat uses zero cows so                  Map of Meat Farms      little or no methane gets released into the atmosphere.  Alfalfa is a food given to cows that uses a lot of water to grow and veggie meat uses little water.  Rainforests are being cut down so cows can be raised for slaughter.

Conclusion

Many people still eat meat to this day, but many people are still making the change to become vegetarian. One day hopefully we will invent a veggie meat where meat experts can't tell the difference between veggie meat and meat, and I hope that more than half the population of the USA will be vegetarian.
